Fire goes 1-0-1 in opening day of Spring Showcase

The Chicago Fire Academy squads went 1-0-1 in Saturday's opening day of the Spring Showcase in Sarasota, Florida.
Playing against LAFC Chelsea, the U-18 Fire scored two quick goals to help them claim 4-2 win over LAFC Chelsea.
In the U-16 match against the same club, the Fire yielded a late goal and wound up settling for a 2-2 draw.
Connor Holloway put the U-18s ahead for good in the ninth minute while Chris Prince connected in the 17th minute.
Prince scored again in the 54th minute and Billy McGuinness added his team's final score in the 56th minute.
Other starters beside the goal scorers were keeper Tom Serratore, Harry Shipp, Oliver Mayer and Brian Lunar.
Rounding out the first 11 for the U-18s were Scott Lakin, Manny Guzman, Patrick Doody and Mitch Albrecht.
Trevor Wheeler and Tyler Engel entered the match just after the break for the U-18 squad.
The Fire U-18s have now won five straight matches and own a 12-1-3 record in their last 16 outings.
Victor Pineda gave the U-16 team the early lead in its match when he connected in the sixth minute.
Luis Medina gave the Fire a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute but Chelsea scored 10 minutes later to tie things up.
Joining Pineda in the starting lineup were keeper Sam Euler, Joel Salmeron, Patryk Ruta and Henok Russell.
Other U-16 starters were Jesus Medina, Lalo Cuautle, Johnny Contreras, Drew Conner, Peter Beasley and Keaton Albert.
Luis Medina, David Caban and Elliot Borge were all substituted during the 40th minute of the match.
The Fire Academy teams return to action on Memorial Day when they both take on the San Diego Surf at the Showcase.
